2025 Gator Swim Information

Updated May, 5th

Please be sure to read through all of this information before registering and attending the first practice. You must be a resident of Franklin Glen to join the swim team.

An information session was held on May 5th in the Franklin Middle School cafeteria.  All information will also be available in the team handbook, which can be found in our Documents Section.

The FG Gators swim team is open to all interested swimmers between the ages of 5 and 18 who are residents of Franklin Glen. Only those participants comfortable in a group swim setting and who have the maturity and attention span required to ensure the safety of all swimmers will be admitted to the program.

Season Goals

The philosophy of the Franklin Glen Gators Swim Team is to provide a positive swimming program that will:

  • Develop self-esteem, confidence, and a sense of personal achievement for each swimmer by teaching sound swimming mechanics and techniques.
  • Develop team spirit by teaching discipline, individual responsibility, and commitment.

We hope to provide our swimmers with an opportunity to improve their swimming skills and exercise in a safe environment.

Registration

The season will begin May 27th, registration will be open from April 1 through June 4th.  A $20 late fee will apply after June 1st. Just go to www.fggators.org and click “Register”.

Our primary forms of communications with you are this website, email, and the Gators Facebook page.  Please carefully read any emails you receive as they contain important information.

2025 Swimsuits - Our swimsuits will be the same as last year.  Suits can be ordered online through a special Cassel's team link that will be posted here when available.  A separate message will also be sent out with this link. The team suit site will be open for a set period of time, after which a bulk order will be placed which allows us to receive their bulk order discount, and takes approximately 2 weeks to arrive.  Please note Cassel's will not offer returns or refunds.  If you need to check your swimmer's suit size, you may do so at Cassel's during their regular operating hours or at the team sizing event.  When the swimsuits arrive, we will notify you where to pickup your suit(s).

2025 Swim Coaches

Junior Gators

The goal of the Junior Gator program is to keep all Gators safe in the water, build confidence, and manage the developmental needs of our newest swimmers.  Swimmers that pass the swim test but do not meet the qualification times at Time Trials to be a competitive Gator will be eligible to participate in our Junior Gator program.  Please see the Gator handbook for additional information, when available.

TIME TRIALS

Time Trials are scheduled for Saturday, June 7 at 8:00am. Time Trials is a practice meet for all Gators so that swimmers understand how swim meets work and for them to obtain legal times for the Swim Ladder.  All children interested in being on the swim team and participating in Time Trials must pass the Franklin Glen Pool swim test by Friday, June 6th.

PARENTS

Parents are required to be present for swimmers ages 8 and under, and are permitted to attend practice for other ages.  Siblings of swimmers ages 8 and under may accompany a parent while their child is in practice, as needed for child care purposes, but must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Practice Dismissal

At the end of practice, swimmers will need to leave the pool area (with all their gear).  There will be no lifeguards on duty during practices, only the coaches who are all lifeguard certified.  However, their attention will be focused on the practice session at the time, and will not supervise your swimmers beyond their designated practice times.  If you as a parent are at the pool with a child not in a practice session (due to siblings in other practices), you are solely responsible for supervising your child that is not practicing.

CONCUSSION AWARENESS

Even though swimming is not a contact sport, concussions are still a threat that we take seriously. Colonial Swim League and Franklin Glen Gators require that coaches, officials, and the team representative complete concussion training annually, per the league's insurance policy. Training is free (and relatively short) through the National Federation of State High Schools Association (NFHS) and can be accessed at the link below:

https://nfhslearn.com/courses/concussion-in-sports-2

Parents are not required to take this training, but it is free and available for your use. Swim meets do not have team trainers or doctors on deck, so it becomes the responsibility of officials and coaches to spot a swimmer’s contact with the wall and their behavior.
